I love jigsaw puzzles but never saw the point in getting one for a device like my iPhone. The screen seemed a bit small and none of the apps really struck me as providing a real puzzle experience. The iPad changed that, and so I began to look through the options on the app store in earnest. Ultimately I settled on Skrambler X and am quite impressed. The pictures are beautiful and of course fine art classics. The large HD screen is also the perfect means of viewing those paintings and it really does feel like you're doing an actual puzzle. The pieces are all shaped the same but that doesn't make anything easier or harder, really. The same principle of matching color and pattern, taking into account all the subtle nuances in shade, etc. come into play. The added benefit is that you don't lose the pieces, either when you are done for the moment or want to scramble them. With each successive piece you match, you accrue energy that can be used via the "jolt" switch to automatically match some pieces. The element I find to particularly cool, besides the graphics, is the information that pops up along the way. You get more than just a puzzle but a mini art history course as you go. This was well worth the $2.99 price, especially considering what I spend for actual puzzles. It's also a fantastic way to take advantage of the beautiful piece of art that is the iPad!
